After reading the articles on the extinction of biodiversity in the world; about we’ll be facing fishless oceans by 2050 and the endangered ten species that will be facing extinction due to climate change. This serves as a strong warning to us that it is time we should start paying more serious attention to this issue and start putting efforts to keep our Mother Earth in a good condition before it become an irreversible problem.
In my personal view, I feel that global warming contributes the most to the widespread extinction of flora and fauna. Global warming is known as the increase in the average temperature of the earth. This has been a worldwide issue that raise many controversies between the political and public. The most prominent cause for global warming is due to human activities such as burning of fossils fuels and coals to produce electricity. Additionally, more population will mean more requirements, like the basic necessities such as food, electricity and transport. In order to fulfil these requirements, more fossil fuels are consumed, which eventually leads to global warming. Hence, these burning of fossils fuels let out carbon dioxide, which traps heat within the atmosphere of the earth and thus, contributes to global warming.
This increase in temperature will generate a series of events which can cause a lot of destruction on the planet such as melting of polar ice-caps which leads to a rise in global sea level, changes in climate patterns and widespread extinction of flora and fauna as a rise in global temperature will hamper the biodiversity of various ecosystem. Changes in climate will result in loss of habitat for many animal species which makes them vulnerable to extinction like the polar bears for example.
We have already done enough of damage and hence it is time we should be exposed to and understand the global warming causes, effect and future repercussions and find solutions at the earliest. We can start by doing little things that happens in our daily life. We can start by doing on our part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminium cans. Little efforts like this can help reduces the emission of carbon dioxide annually.
In conclusion, we may not live to face the dreaded consequences of global warming, but if we don't act fast, it will be our future generations who will have to bear the burnt.
