Personally i feel that other countries that World-Cup too seriously. There are such things as recording and internet. They can record the match or look at it in the internet when they end their work or before work. That way, it would not affect their sleep and they get their work done.
China, for example, takes the matches too seriously. They would rather lose their job than to miss a match, as quoted from "Some employers fear World Cup - People's Daily Online". This shows that they did not think about the future. If they were to quit their job during the world cup season, what are the chances that they might get back the job or find a similar one iin a short period of time. The chances are unlikely, especially in China where the growth of population is very high.
As for the England fans, they are to a big advantage as there are pubs nearby that show the matches live, based on the data from "BBC News - How to manage your workflow around the England game". This shows that the England fans have no excuse of not being able to watch as they can rush off to a nearby pub after work. They also encourage the people to prioritise. Therefore, they are encouraged to do their work first, and then leave for the match. Therefore it wont affect their work and they would want to do it faster. Despite that fact, they may be excited to watch the match that they do their work wrongly. They do it for the sake of doing it and not because they want to. That is a huge loss to the company as their data would be interpreted wrongly.
Most Singaporeans would rather work than watch the matches as some channels do not show the matches live. However, they would watch it online later and discuss about it the following days as stated in http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1061763/1/.html. This would affect their rate of work too as majority of the people are unable to multi-task and tend to focus on only one topic. Therefore they would be unable to finish their work on time.
The world cup season would also affect the quality of the employee's work. When the team they support lose, they would feel lousy and would not pay proper attention to their work. When the team they support win, they would be overjoyed and go out to celebrate. Causing them to be late for work or not focus. Therefore, no matter what idea they use to watch the World cup, it would still affect their quality or work and the time.
love love, fatima.
