After blogging on the various articles, I am more aware of the current affairs happening in Singapore as well as the issues facing the world today. The one article that I can relate to the most is the issue on Plagiarism.
As students, we are constantly doing research and gathering information for our projects. With the accessibility of the internet, any information can be acquired easily and at our own convenience.
On the other hand, this creates the problem of plagiarism since there are no limitations on how the information can be used. Students that are stressed out and rushing to meet deadlines might be tempted to take the easy way out, which is to plagiarise.
One of the ways that the lecturers of NYP have help curb this issue is by constantly reminding the students to keep their reports plagiarism free and the consequences if we were to plagiarise. I am thankful for that because by being more aware on the issues of plagiarism, it has helped me a lot in my school assignments. I have learnt to be more creative in my writing by making a point to use my own words and to not ‘copy and paste’ blindly.
I have also learnt to respect the work of others by quoting my sources. After doing the reports for my projects as well as writing the blog entries, I came to realise that I would definitely not appreciate it if someone were to copy my work and not give credit when due as I had put in a lot of time and effort in the assignments given to me.
