Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work.

After reading those two articles, Tokyo University to crack down on
Plagiarism in theses and Schools stress to pupils: No copying, I have a better understanding of the importance of plagiarism.

In my opinion, i think plagiarism is something which should be emphasized even more, but not only to students studying in Secondary School, but even students who are much more younger or even taught since young. Plagiarism definitely needs to be conveyed to the adults as well. Plagiarism is a big offence because in the first place, we should not even copy other people’s work as that has to do with integrity which teachers and parents would always remind their students and children respectively. The message of being original should be brought across at all times.

In the article about the Tokyo University, it is stated that the president of that university will overhaul its thesis examination process and throw the book at anyone found to have plagiarized other people's work. It clearly shows about how much they value the originality of students’ work. Also, in the article of school stressing to students about no copying, all institutions said they relied most on teachers' intuition to spot instances of plagiarism and to take action against the student. However, i still insist on the fact that every single one of us should take pride in whatever work we are being tasked to do.

It is surely annoying enough to know that someone actually copied your work or like what a lot would say, “let me take a look and see how i should go about doing it”. The one who actually copied won’t even know how much effort that person has put in just to make sure the assignment is being done well. Adding on that, if teachers are not able to actually realise that the latter actually copied people’s work and graded him/her with a good grade, i really think it would be too unfair.

Plagiarism should be a value which is inculcated since young to every single one of us. And i would really appreciate if actions would be carried out if Schools were to suspect plagiarism, by using specific detection software.
